Where a line shows a range, the total, per-hour and per-mile figures use its midpoint— insurance moves most with your experience and time in type, hangar with where you base the aircraft, so your own number could sit at either end. Annual inspection is the shop's labor to open and inspect — what they find is the maintenance line, which covers oil changes, plugs, tires, brakes, hoses, lights, a battery and vacuum pump amortised over their life, and the unscheduled squawks that are the largest and least predictable part of it. Reserves are sinking funds toward an overhaul, not a bill you pay this year — and note that a propeller is due on hours or calendar time, typically six years, so flying less does not put it off forever.

Overview
The Diamond DA20 is an Austrian-designed, Canadian-built all-composite two-seat trainer that disrupted the flight training market when it arrived in the mid-1990s. Available in two variants — the DA20-A1 Katana with an 80HP Rotax 912 and the DA20-C1 Eclipse with a 125HP Continental IO-240 — it offered a modern alternative to aging Cessna 150/152 and Piper Tomahawk fleets.
The DA20's composite construction, sliding bubble canopy, and low-wing configuration give it a distinctly modern feel. It's significantly faster than competing trainers (138 KTAS on 125HP is remarkable) while burning only 5.5 GPH — making it one of the most fuel-efficient certified aircraft available.
The DA20-A1 Katana with Rotax 912 is MOSAIC eligible (Vs1 well under 54 KIAS, gross weight under 3,000 lbs), which may increase its relevance and value as MOSAIC takes effect. The DA20-C1 Eclipse is also MOSAIC eligible.
Total DA20 production exceeds 1,000 aircraft. The DA20 remains available from Diamond though production is limited.

Performance
The DA20-C1 Eclipse at 138 KTAS on 5.5 GPH is extraordinarily efficient. For comparison, a Cessna 152 manages 107 KTAS on 6 GPH — the DA20 is 31 knots faster while burning less fuel.
The Katana (Rotax 912, 80HP) is slower at 115 KTAS but even more fuel-efficient at 4 GPH. The Rotax requires MOGAS or 91UL fuel, not 100LL.
The low wing provides good ground effect during landing and a stable ride in turbulence. The sliding canopy provides excellent visibility — superior to any high-wing trainer. Stall behavior is docile with good pre-stall buffet.
