The "Debonair" Marketing Story
The 1960 Model 35-33 was Beechcraft's response to the Cessna 210 (introduced 1960) and Piper Comanche (introduced 1958) -- both of which offered retractable-gear 4-seat performance at significantly lower pricing than the V-tail Bonanza 35. Beech's strategic answer was a stripped-down V-tail Bonanza with a conventional tail and reduced trim:
