These figures are typical for the model, not a specification for any individual aircraft. Real-world numbers vary with year, installed equipment, weight, modifications and engine condition — often by more than you would expect. Use them to compare types, and confirm anything you would act on against the Pilot's Operating Handbook for that specific airframe and a prebuy inspection.

Annual all-in
~$26k/yr
All-in at ~100 flying hours a year, using the midpoint of each range — the same figures broken out under “Cost to own” below. Your number will differ, and mostly for two reasons. Experience sets your insurance: a 2,000-hour pilot with recent training pays 30–40% less than a 200-hour owner, and student owners pay 20–40% more — on the same aircraft that is often a doubling. Location sets your hangar: a T-hangar runs $200–400 a month in the Midwest against $400–1,500 in a coastal metro, and an outside tie-down is less again. Engine reserves move too — a local shop reusing your serviceable cylinders can come in 30–50% under the national specialty-shop pricing we quote, though you trade the warranty and turnaround that comes with it. Reserves are money set aside toward a future overhaul, not a bill this year, and the annual inspection figure is the shop’s labor to look — whatever they find is separate.

Fuel, engine reserve and wear only. Insurance, hangar and the annual are already paid whether you make the trip or not, so they are not charged here.
Estimate, not a quote. Where a line shows a range, the total, per-hour and per-mile figures use its midpoint— insurance moves most with your experience and time in type, hangar with where you base the aircraft, so your own number could sit at either end. Annual inspection is the shop's labor to open and inspect — what they find is the maintenance line, which covers oil changes, plugs, tires, brakes, hoses, lights, a battery and vacuum pump amortised over their life, and the unscheduled squawks that are the largest and least predictable part of it. Reserves are sinking funds toward an overhaul, not a bill you pay this year — and note that a propeller is due on hours or calendar time, typically six years, so flying less does not put it off forever.

Overview
The 1967 M20F Executive 21 introduced the first stretched-fuselage Mooney -- 10 inches longer cabin than the M20C/E, providing meaningfully usable rear-seat space and 165 lbs higher gross weight (2,740 vs 2,575 lbs). Combined with the IO-360-A1A 200 HP engine, the F became the definitive 4-adult Mooney for cross-country missions prior to the M20J 201.
Approximately 819 M20Fs were built across the 1967-1977 run. The F was meaningfully more popular than the contemporary M20G (180 HP, same stretched cabin) due to the noticeable performance gap.
The Stretched Cabin
The M20F adds 10 inches to the cabin between the wing and tail, primarily benefiting rear-seat passengers:
- Rear seat genuinely usable for 6-foot adults
- 165 lbs higher gross weight than M20E
- Slightly more baggage space behind rear seat
- 64 gal fuel capacity (vs M20E's 52 gal)
The stretch trades 5-7 knots of cruise speed -- 148 KTAS at 75% power vs the M20E's 155 KTAS. For most owners the trade is worthwhile.
Performance
- Cruise: 148 KTAS at 7,500 ft (75% power)
- Climb: 1,030 FPM at gross
- Fuel burn: 10.5 GPH cruise (same as E -- larger fuel tanks = more range)
- Range: 580 NM with reserves at 64 gal fuel
- Useful load: 1,100 lbs (100 lbs better than M20E)
The M20F's 1,100 lb useful load with 64 gal fuel makes it the most practical four-adult Mooney pre-201.

Valuation Factors
| Condition | Price Range |
|---|---|
| Flying but tired | $70,000-$95,000 |
| Well-maintained, mid-time engine | $95,000-$120,000 |
| Well-maintained, modern panel | $110,000-$140,000 |
M20Fs typically trade within $5,000-$10,000 of equivalent M20Es -- the stretched cabin is a meaningful value, but the speed difference is also meaningful. Final price often comes down to specific airframe condition and panel modernization.

ADs & Common Problems
Universal Mooney pre-buy concerns apply. M20F-specific:
- Cabin extension structure: The fuselage extension introduces additional structural complexity; inspect for any signs of accident damage or structural distortion.
- IO-360-A1A cylinder condition: Same as M20E.
- 64 gal fuel bladder condition: Larger F fuel tanks have more bladder area to deteriorate; replacement $5,000-$8,000.
- Tail rust: Same steel tube tail as E.
- Electric gear motor condition: F models have electric gear; motor replacement $1,500-$2,500.
