Estimate, not a quote. Where a line shows a range, the total, per-hour and per-mile figures use its midpoint— insurance moves most with your experience and time in type, hangar with where you base the aircraft, so your own number could sit at either end. Annual inspection is the shop's labor to open and inspect — what they find is the maintenance line, which covers oil changes, plugs, tires, brakes, hoses, lights, a battery and vacuum pump amortised over their life, and the unscheduled squawks that are the largest and least predictable part of it. Reserves are sinking funds toward an overhaul, not a bill you pay this year — and note that a propeller is due on hours or calendar time, typically six years, so flying less does not put it off forever.

Overview
The Aviat Husky is the modern purpose-built backcountry airplane. Designed from the ground up in the mid-1980s by Christen Industries (later Aviat Aircraft) in Afton, Wyoming, the Husky was the only all-new light aircraft designed and entered production in the US during that era. It combines the best attributes of the Piper Super Cub — tandem seating, tailwheel, high wing, fabric covering — with modern engineering, improved performance, and a wider cabin.
The Husky is built with welded 4130 chromoly steel tube fuselage, Dacron fabric covering, and metal wing leading edges. The construction is designed for backcountry durability while meeting modern crashworthiness standards. The tandem two-seat configuration places the pilot in front with the passenger behind, providing excellent forward visibility.
More than 800 Huskies have been produced since 1987, and the aircraft remains in production. The current models are the A-1C-180 (180HP) and A-1C-200 (200HP fuel-injected). New Huskies list at approximately $350,000+.
The Husky is MOSAIC eligible (Vs1 46 KIAS, gross weight 2,200 lbs), which may expand its market as MOSAIC regulations take effect.

The steady gross weight increases from 1,800 lbs (A-1) to 2,200/2,250 lbs (A-1C) dramatically improved the Husky's utility. The A-1C-180 has 925 lbs useful load — more than a loaded Super Cub — and the A-1C-200's fuel injection provides better high-altitude performance and 200 FPM more climb.
Performance
The A-1C-180 cruises at 120 KTAS on 9 GPH with 50 gallons of fuel — providing 700 nm range at 55% power. This is exceptional endurance for a backcountry airplane. The A-1C-200 cruises slightly faster at 124 KTAS on 9.7 GPH.
The Husky's STOL performance is outstanding — takeoff ground roll under 350 feet at gross weight (the A-1C-200 achieves 265 feet) with massive flaps providing stall speeds as low as 37-40 KIAS in landing configuration. The 1,500 FPM climb rate (1,700 FPM for the 200HP) provides excellent margins for mountain flying.
The service ceiling of 20,000 feet is remarkable for a 180HP taildragger and allows the Husky to cross mountain ranges that would stop a Super Cub. The high power-to-weight ratio and low wing loading combine to make the Husky one of the most capable mountain-flying aircraft in production.
The type certificate includes provisions for Alaskan Bushwheel tires (8.50", 26", 29", 31") without STCs — changing tire configurations requires no additional paperwork, a significant practical advantage for bush operators.
