All-in at ~100 flying hours a year, using the midpoint of each range — the same figures broken out under “Cost to own” below. Your number will differ, and mostly for two reasons. Experience sets your insurance: a 2,000-hour pilot with recent training pays 30–40% less than a 200-hour owner, and student owners pay 20–40% more — on the same aircraft that is often a doubling. Location sets your hangar: a T-hangar runs $200–400 a month in the Midwest against $400–1,500 in a coastal metro, and an outside tie-down is less again. Engine reserves move too — a local shop reusing your serviceable cylinders can come in 30–50% under the national specialty-shop pricing we quote, though you trade the warranty and turnaround that comes with it. Estimate, not a quote. Where a line shows a range, the total, per-hour and per-mile figures use its midpoint— insurance moves most with your experience and time in type, hangar with where you base the aircraft, so your own number could sit at either end. Annual inspection is the shop's labor to open and inspect — what they find is the maintenance line, which covers oil changes, plugs, tires, brakes, hoses, lights, a battery and vacuum pump amortised over their life, and the unscheduled squawks that are the largest and least predictable part of it. Reserves are sinking funds toward an overhaul, not a bill you pay this year — and note that a propeller is due on hours or calendar time, typically six years, so flying less does not put it off forever.

Overview
The Tecnam P2006T is an Italian-designed, high-wing, four-seat light twin powered by two Rotax 912S3 engines of 100 HP each. Certified by EASA in 2010 and by the FAA in 2010 under type certificate A62CE, it is a fully Part 23 / CS-23 certified airplane — despite its Rotax powerplants, it is NOT an LSA. With retractable gear, fully feathering MT constant-speed propellers, and an IFR-capable panel, it provides an authentic "complex multi-engine" training environment at a fraction of the fuel cost of legacy twins. Production began in 2009 at Tecnam's Capua, Italy facility and the type remains in production, with the MKII (2016) and NG (2025) upgrades refining the platform. The majority of the global fleet operates with US, European, and Asian flight schools conducting multi-engine training and initial AMEL/IR checkrides. A dedicated special-mission variant (the P2006T MRI / SMP) has been adopted by surveillance, maritime patrol, and border-control operators.

Performance
The P2006T cruises at approximately 135 KTAS at 75% power at 6,000–8,000 ft while burning roughly 10 GPH total (about 5 GPH per engine) — less fuel than a single Cessna 182 while delivering two engines and retractable gear. Rotax 912s run happily on mogas or 91UL and are thermally tolerant, but they do not like extended cruise above 12,000 ft without careful leaning and induction monitoring. Single-engine ceiling is modest (~7,000 ft density altitude), and single-engine climb at gross on a hot day is anemic — typical of any light twin with ~100 HP surviving. Vmc is very low (around 60 KIAS) because the engines are close to centerline and propellers feather quickly, which is part of why the aircraft is so benign in ME training. Real-world block fuel burn on a 300 nm trip at 8,000 ft is typically 10–11 GPH total.
Payload & Range
With a useful load of approximately 1,037 lb and full fuel weight of 312 lb (52 gal usable), the P2006T can carry 725 lb of people and baggage with full tanks — essentially three FAA-standard adults plus light bags, or two adults plus children and full bags. Full-seats loading (four 180 lb adults = 720 lb) leaves 317 lb for fuel and baggage, limiting fuel to roughly 40–45 gallons and cutting range to approximately 500 nm with VFR reserves. Practical owner experience: two adults and full fuel yields a 4.5–5.5 hour mission window at 135 KTAS, comfortably reaching 600+ nm with IFR reserves. It is a true 2+2 cross-country twin rather than a full-four-seat tourer.

Mission Suitability
- Flight training (10): The P2006T is arguably the best purpose-built multi-engine trainer on the market. It ticks every box for the AMEL practical test standards — twin engines, constant-speed props, retractable gear — while costing roughly half the fuel of a Beechcraft 76 Duchess or Piper PA-44-180 Seminole. - Surveying / Special Mission (9): The MRI / SMP variant is purpose-built for long-loiter low-and-slow maritime and border surveillance. With a 5–6 hour endurance, high-wing sensor view, and low fuel burn, it is extremely competitive for ISR missions at 50–200 nm ranges.
- Business travel (5): 135 KTAS and 4 seats is acceptable for short regional hops, but range is limited (~600 nm with reserves) and the cabin is narrow compared to a Baron or 310.
- Cross-country (5): Fuel economy is outstanding but speed and range lag behind a comparably priced single like a cessna-182-skylane or even a Tecnam P2010 / P2008JC / P2002 Sierra.
- Backcountry (2): Retractable gear, low prop clearance, and fragile Rotax cooling intakes disqualify it for unimproved strips.
- Aerobatics (1): Not certified or suitable.
- Local fun (5): Expensive and complex for purely recreational use, though owners report it is genuinely fun to fly.

Avionics Ecosystem
Early (2009–2015) P2006Ts shipped with the Garmin G950 integrated flight deck (two 10-inch PFDs plus MFD). The P2006T has a limited STC ecosystem compared to legacy American twins. Notable modifications include:

Parts availability is good but routed through Tecnam North America (Sebring, FL) and authorized service centers; lead times on airframe parts can be 2–6 weeks from Italy. Rotax 912S3 parts are widely available through Rotax service centers and Lockwood Aviation. A&P familiarity is a genuine constraint — the combination of Rotax powerplant, MT constant-speed props, and retractable gear requires a mechanic who is both Rotax-trained and comfortable with a CS-23 twin. Annual inspections typically run $6,000–$10,000 for a well-maintained airframe with no surprises. Expensive items include Rotax gearbox service, MT prop overhaul, and retractable gear rigging. Pricing spans a wide range depending on age, hours, and avionics generation:
- 2009–2013 G950-equipped base P2006T: $310K–$425K depending on hours and engine time remaining.
