Overview
The Beechcraft Duke Model 60 (1968-1982) was Beechcraft's attempt to create a cabin-class pressurized piston twin slotted between the Baron and the King Air. Powered by two Lycoming TIO-541 turbocharged engines producing 380HP each (760HP total), the Duke offers pressurized FL250+ capability with 215 KTAS cruise.
Only 596 Dukes were built across the 60, A60, and B60 variants before production ended in 1982. The Duke was always an expensive, low-volume aircraft that lived in the shadow of the King Air — which offered turbine reliability and higher altitude capability for not much more money.
Today the Duke has a devoted but small following of owners who love the airplane's performance and cabin comfort but accept the reality of very high maintenance costs. Performance
The Duke cruises at 215 KTAS at FL200+ — genuinely fast for a piston twin and faster than any Baron. With a pressurized cabin maintaining 10,000 ft cabin altitude at FL210 (3.5 PSI differential), the Duke offers a cabin experience closer to a turboprop than a piston.
Real-world fuel burn is approximately 36-40 GPH total at cruise power settings. This is expensive: at $6/gallon, fuel alone costs $216-$240/hour.
The turbocharged engines maintain power to high altitude, providing excellent climb capability. Rate of climb at gross is 1,601 FPM — impressive for a 6,775 lb airplane.

- Flight Training (2): Not a training aircraft. Too expensive, too complex, and too specialized. The only training scenario is type-specific transition training.
