Experience sets your insurance: a 2,000-hour pilot with recent training pays 30–40% less than a 200-hour owner, and student owners pay 20–40% more — on the same aircraft that is often a doubling. Annual inspection is the shop's labor to open and inspect — what they find is the maintenance line, which covers oil changes, plugs, tires, brakes, hoses, lights, a battery and vacuum pump amortised over their life, and the unscheduled squawks that are the largest and least predictable part of it. Overview

The 1970 Beechcraft Baron 58 was the stretched, cargo-door successor to the Baron 55 -- 10 inches longer fuselage, dual cargo doors on the right side (similar to the A36 Bonanza), and 285 HP per side as standard. The 58 quickly became the most popular Baron variant and remained in production through 2005 in this pre-G58 configuration, with a G1000-equipped G58 succeeding it for current production.

Approximately 2,500 Baron 58s (and 58TC/58P pressurized variants) were produced through 2005. The Baron 58 has been described as the gold standard for owner-flown light twins -- comfortable 6-seat cabin, dual cargo doors for cargo flexibility, twin-engine redundancy, and 200+ KTAS cruise performance.

The Cargo Door Advantage

The 58's signature feature is dual right-side cargo doors (one for cargo, one for passengers in the rear). These doors enable:
