Annual all-in
~$32k/yr
All-in estimate at ~100 flying hours a year — fuel, annual inspection, engine reserve, insurance, and hangar. It scales with your actual hours, and insurance and hangar vary most by region and pilot.
Cost to own — estimate
Set your yearly hours and local fuel price. Fixed costs (insurance, hangar, annual inspection) don't change with hours; fuel and the engine reserve do.
- Fuel (17.5 gph)
- $11,375
- Engine reserve (toward overhaul)
- $3,100
- Fixed (insurance, hangar, annual, subscriptions)
- $17,525
- Total per year
- $32,000
- Per flight hour
- $320
- Miles flown / year (at cruise)
- 27,273 mi
- Cost per mile
- $1.17/mi
Estimate, not a quote — insurance and hangar (the fixed bucket) vary most by region and pilot. Anchored to our model figure at 100 hrs and $6.50/gal.
Strengths
- 237 KTAS cruise — fastest production Mooney ever, rivals turboprop speeds
- 25,000 ft service ceiling with twin turbochargers and intercoolers
- 1,445 NM range enables non-stop transcontinental US legs under 7 hours
- 4-seat stretched cabin on proven M20R airframe
Weaknesses
- Dual TSIO-550-G turbos require specialized inspection and maintenance expertise
- Mooney production ceased 2019; dealer support and parts availability now patchy
- Twin intercoolers prone to corrosion in coastal/high-humidity environments
- Engine monitor review essential — TSIO-550-G sensitive to CHT excursions
Overview
The 2006 Mooney M20TN Acclaim was Mooney's top-of-line turbocharged single and remains, with the Cessna TTx (M20TN's 235 KTAS sibling), one of the fastest production piston singles ever built. The Acclaim combined the M20R Ovation's stretched-cabin airframe with the Continental TSIO-550-G producing 280 HP through twin turbochargers and intercoolers.
Three generations spanned the 2006-2019 production:
- Acclaim (2006-2007): Original 237 KTAS cruise capability
- Acclaim Type S (2008-2014): Refined fuselage aerodynamics, claimed 242 KTAS top cruise
- Acclaim Ultra (2017-2019): Reintroduced after Mooney bankruptcy with Garmin G1000 NXi, refined cabin, and minor performance updates
Approximately 350 Acclaims were produced across the run. Production ceased permanently in 2019 when Mooney terminated piston aircraft manufacturing.
The 237 KTAS Speed
The Acclaim's 237 KTAS cruise is the fastest production Mooney ever and exceeds many turboprop single-engine cruise speeds. Key enablers:
- TSIO-550-G with twin turbochargers and intercoolers
- M20R Ovation airframe (stretched, long-body)
- Refined fuselage and cowling aerodynamics
- Service ceiling 25,000 ft
At FL250, the Acclaim's 237 KTAS = 273 statute MPH cruise rivals older airline turboprop times for routes under 1,500 NM.
Performance
- Cruise (FL250): 237 KTAS at 75% power
- Climb: 1,240 FPM at sea level
- Fuel burn: 17.5 GPH at cruise
- Service ceiling: 25,000 ft
- Range: 1,445 NM with reserves at 100 gal fuel
- Useful load: 1,158 lbs
The 1,445 NM range enables non-stop transcontinental US legs in under 7 hours -- competitive with light jets for routes under 1,500 NM.

Valuation Factors
| Variant | Condition | Price Range |
|---|---|---|
| Acclaim (2006-2007) | Well-maintained | $380,000-$485,000 |
| Acclaim Type S (2008-2014) | Well-maintained | $475,000-$640,000 |
| Acclaim Ultra (2017-2019) | Well-maintained | $620,000-$825,000 |
Acclaim Ultras command $200,000-$300,000 premium over equivalent Acclaim Type S due to G1000 NXi panel, refined cabin, and "last-Mooney" collectibility.

ADs & Common Problems
Universal Mooney pre-buy applies. TN-specific:
- TSIO-550-G dual turbocharger condition: Two turbos to inspect; combined replacement cost $10,000-$15,000.
- Intercooler condition: Twin intercoolers prone to corrosion in coastal aircraft.
- Engine monitor history: TSIO-550-G is sensitive to CHT excursions; engine monitor data review essential.
- Cabin oxygen system: TN flies routinely above 12,500 ft; verify built-in oxygen system function and bottle test currency.
- Mooney support availability: Mooney production ceased 2019; support is patchy. Verify dealer access in buyer's region.
